Food Recalls 2022 Canada: Stats and Insights

Food recalls are always a hot topic in Canada given that it has a massive impact on consumers and businesses. In this post, we gathered and analyzed the food recalls that happened in 2022 across Canada.

In 2022, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recalled hundreds of food items. On a positive note, there were fewer recalls compared to the 2021 food recalls in Canada.
The Canadian food safety authorities have a distinct classification for the recalls they issue.
There were 120 food recall warnings in 2022 in Canada issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. This number went down from 179 in 2021. As shown in the YoY food recalls comparison in the table below, the biggest improvement happened in the fruits and vegetables category while a significant increase in fish and seafood recalls were remarkable in 2022 food recalls in Canada. Another notable change was seen candy and snack recalls whose number more than doubled year over year.
