Why Custom Kill and Private Labeling Matters in Meat Processing

Abattoirs offering custom kill and private labeling services are essential to local producers. They provide the processing and packaging needed to bring locally raised meat to stores and farmers’ markets. This sector is experiencing a resurgence as more families choose to buy their meat from local sources.

Yield Reporting

Symphony gives abattoirs the ability to share important lot yield information, giving them the tools to provide transparency back to their producers.

Custom Labeling

Custom labeling enables processors to easily label custom kill products with the producer’s name and logo.

Traceability

End-to-end traceability enables custom kill abattoirs to monitor finished goods production from the moment animals arrive at the barn to when the final products are returned to the producer.

Accounting Integration

Integrating with key accounting programs like QuickBooks and Sage helps prevent invoicing errors and eliminates double entry, streamlining operations.

Process

How Custom Kill and Private Labeling Works

Animal Lot Scheduling

In the office, animal lots are scheduled for receipt from producers. Applicable custom kill and packing fees are assigned to each lot.

Receiving

Animals arrive at the barn and are placed in pens. Each lot is assigned a unique receiving number for tracking.

Kill Floor Processing

Animals are processed through the kill floor. Key data, such as ear tag or tattoo number, weight, attributes, and demerits, is recorded for each animal.

Finished Goods Processing

Carcasses are scanned to the cut floor for processing. Finished goods are created and labeled with the producer’s information.

Picking and Shipping

Items are scanned to an order for pickup, ensuring the correct pieces are assigned to the correct orders. Charges are generated based on predetermined fees. Invoicing details are sent directly from Symphony to the accounting system.
