Weighing and Labeling

Carlisle Technology’s weighing and labeling solution combines iCap plant floor software with integrated hardware, including scales, printers, scanners, and more, to deliver a complete end‑to‑end system. This streamlined approach increases production capacity, reduces errors, and enhances overall operational efficiency.
Why Weighing and Labeling Matters in Meat Processing
Meat processors rely on accurate weighing and labeling for both raw materials, used for WIP and yield tracking, and finished goods destined for inventory and sales. Proper weighing and labeling throughout production ensures accurate inventory management, supports full traceability, and keeps every item in the plant properly accounted for.
WIP and Yield Tracking
Weighing and labeling raw materials allows processors to track which items are issued into production batches and identify where weight is lost throughout the process. This visibility helps improve accuracy, reduce shrink, and optimize yields.
Reducing Giveaway
By weighing standard‑weight products, processors can ensure items fall within the desired weight range. This minimizes giveaway and ensures all products meet minimum weight requirements, protecting margins and maintaining customer expectations.
Catch Weight Labeling
Fresh meat products are often sold by weight rather than by fixed quantity. This requires capturing the exact weight for each case and printing it directly on the product label to ensure compliance and accurate pricing.
Finished Goods Inventory
Weighing and labeling finished products creates a precise, real-time inventory that sales teams rely on. Barcoded labels help ensure items can be picked quickly and accurately, reducing errors and improving order fulfillment.
How Weighing and Labeling Works
On the kill floor, carcasses often need to be weighed and labeled as they move from one processing stage to the next. iCap integrates with trolley ID systems and rail scales to accurately identify each carcass and capture its weight. Once a carcass has been identified and weighed, a label can be printed and pinned to it, ensuring full traceability throughout the kill floor process.
Manual weighing and labeling is ideal for meat processors handling lower product volumes. In these environments, an operator places the item on a scale and selects the appropriate PLU. iCap then generates a product label, and once the label is printed, the production record is automatically sent to Symphony for production reporting and inventory tracking.
For high-volume meat processing operations, Carlisle Technology’s automated case and pallet labeling solution can weigh and label more than 30 cases per minute. iCap identifies products as they move down the conveyor, captures each weight, applies the label automatically, and then verifies that the label has been correctly applied. Pallet labels can also be automatically generated as each pallet is built.
