WIP Tracking

Carlisle Technology’s WIP Tracking solution gives meat processors real-time visibility from raw intake to finished goods, delivering accurate WIP insights, automated traceability, and validated data capture that, eliminates paperwork, strengthens compliance, and improves decision-making across every production stage.
Why WIP Tracking Matters in Meat Processing
When work in progress (WIP) isn’t tracked with precision, plants lose visibility, waste yield, and expose themselves to compliance and customer trust risks. Carlisle Technology solves these challenges with purpose-built WIP tracking designed for the realities of meat production.
Track Raw Materials
Tracking incoming raw materials through each production batch ensures full visibility into their origins, quantities used, and remaining amounts available for future manufacturing.
Batch Yield Reporting
Batch yield reporting helps processors understand exactly how much raw material entered each batch and how much product is produced, reducing waste, lower material costs, and improving profitability.
Full Traceability
Full traceability naturally results from effective WIP tracking. Knowing exactly what enters each batch and where finished products go gives processors confidence they’re fully prepared to respond to any potential recall.
Bill of Material Management
The ability to create and manage bills of material that make up each finished product helps processors accurately track WIP inputs, apply FIFO to items like packaging, and correctly manage tare weights.
How WIP Tracking Works
Plant floor operators receive all raw materials entering the facility. Each incoming item must have a GS1-128 barcode; if it arrives without one, it is labeled upon receipt. Symphony then captures this information and builds a comprehensive raw-material inventory database that records what products were received, the quantities, the receipt dates, and the original vendor of each item.
Each day, raw materials are issued from inventory into production batches. Materials can be added to batches either by scanning them or by automatically issuing them according to the finished product’s bill of materials. This process gives meat processors clear visibility into which raw materials were used in each batch and the total quantity issued.
Once a finished product is completed, it is weighed and labeled as a finished good. iCap records the product PLU, weight, and quantity produced, linking this information back to the production batch where the raw materials were issued. This creates a clear connection between incoming ingredients and final finished goods.
WIP reporting provides essential production insights for meat processors. These reports focus on requirements such as traceability and batch yield performance. By delivering clear visibility into in-process materials, WIP reports help processors prepare for potential recalls, reduce raw-material waste, and improve overall plant floor efficiency.
WIP Tracking for your Industry
WIP Tracking for All Industries
WIP tracking is critical across all meat processing sectors because it identifies the point where raw materials become finished goods. Whether converting carcasses into primals or boxed meat into hamburger patties, effective tracking ensures each ingredient is accurately linked to the products it creates, supporting traceability and operational control.
