Older Omni-Weigh systems required a hardware sentinel that plugged into the parallel port in order to operate the system. Due to limited availability of these sentinels, as well as the evolution of computers (lack of a parallel port, increased remote administration), these sentinels can no longer be provided.

As a replacement, newer versions of Omni-Weigh as well as iCap have a software key that is used to register and unlock the features of the product.

A few notes regarding the new software sentinels:

The key is related to the Station ID, so that the station ID cannot be altered for a station (without keying in a new license key). This goes hand-in-hand with Carlisle’s standard best practice that customers should not be altering StationID’s when swapping in a spare station as that practice is prone to problems such as duplicate label generation.

Customers can have a mix of some Omni-Weigh stations, some with the old hardware sentinel, and some with the new software sentinel

Customers requiring additional weigh and label systems will be required to upgrade to a later version of Omni-Weigh or iCap (there is no difference in price). The only caveat is that some older applications (reports, product files, scripts) may need to be ported to newer systems, requiring a software maintenance request (which is billable). An update to Informer (or Symphony) may be required to support this.

Carlisle strongly encourages customers to migrate to iCap, as it offers an enhanced feature set, it has more flexible interface options, better diagnostics, and software modifications are much easier to administer and implement remotely (resulting in a lower cost for our customers).

Please contact Carlisle technical support for more information or advice regarding your upgrade plans.

General Precautions

Do not change any fuses while the unit is plugged into an electrical outlet.

Do not unplug or install the keyboard while power is on.

Do not shut down the unit or remove the power source, unless the system is at the Main Menu or Login screen.

If you experience any problems contact maintenance immediately

Environmental Inspection and Cleaning

To prolong the life, Carlisle recommends that the workstations be covered with a plastic drop cover or a heavy-duty vinyl cover during plant wash-down procedures.

If the unit is damp, carefully wipe the base of the upper casing before opening the unit.

Check the units (and printer enclosures) periodically for excessive moisture. If it is found to be damp inside, let it dry out in an office over a weekend.
-> If damp, please verify the seal around the unit. Contact Carlisle Technology Service Department if it needs to be repaired or replaced.

Do not leave the case open unless servicing the unit.

Do not place or store any foreign objects inside the 3800/4800/5800/E-Series (or printer enclosures) like cleaning supplies, gloves, food, beverages, etc. We’ve seen everything….

The metal casings of the units can be cleaned with warm water and mild dish soap.

If your units require more vigorous cleanings please contact Carlisle Technology Service Department to arrange a maintenance call.

Touchscreen Care and Cleaning

No sharp objects are to be used on or around the touch screen.

Never strike the Touch Screen – always use gentle pressure to operate the unit.

If experiencing any problems, contact maintenance right away

The touchscreen is sensitive to abrasion and chemicals, so it is recommended that only warm water be used in it’s cleaning

If a touch screen becomes dirty:

soak a soft towel or cloth in warm water, and wring most of the water out so as toleave the towel still damp. Use this to carefully clean the touch screen.

Use a dry towel to wipe off the excess moisture left behind, so water does not leak into any small cracks around the mounting bezel*

*Note: The 3800/4800/5800 units have been designed and tested to withstand a high pressure and high volume of water, exceeding IP65 specifications.
However - seals will deteriorate over time, and with consistent high pressure spraying directly on the touchscreen, water may enter the unit.

Carlisle Service Technicians will regularly inspect units during a preventative maintenance visit, and Carlisle recommends regularly inspecting the interior of the unit for moisture. Units needing their seals replaced will need to be sent to Carlisle’s Service Department (recommended every 2 years).
Please contact Carlisle for an RMA# before shipping units.

CARLISLE CANNOT ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY RESULTING FROM THE APPLICATION OF THESE CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS, PLEASE CONTACT CARLISLE BEFORE UTILIZING THESE CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS.

Cautions:

Known material incompatibilities exist between certain plastics, silicones and their solvent counterparts. Silicone lubricants must be immediately washed off of silicone-rubber keyboards or permanent damage will occur and void your product warranty. Remember, these keyboards contain delicate and sensitive equipment and switches inside that can be damaged through inappropriate handling

Your recipes are unique. Your factory processes are unique. And you need full Internal Traceability.

The Symphony PTM was designed for plants like yours.

Configurable recipes. Configurable process flows. Configurable quality data collection during the process (eg: HACCP and GMP).

Full Internal Traceability is baked right into Symphony PTM, through the capturing of ingredient lot codes, to the automatic generation of WIP lot codes, to the weighing and GS1 labelling of finished goods.

This is an industry first.

End of Life for EBC-C3PLUS 733MHz motherboard

July 26, 2011

The EBC-C3PLUS 733MHz motherboard (Part #5458450), used in earlier Protector 4800 and 5800 workstations, has reached end of life status, and is unavailable for purchase. Some refurbished boards may be available for unique situations.

This board is superseded by the EBC-855 motherboard (Part #5458464)., which has been Carlisle’s standard in the Protector 4800 and Protector 5800 for the past few years.

Omni-Weigh and iCap software are unaffected by this change. Some customer networks may need additional testing to ensure compatibility with the EBC-855 motherboard.

For more information, please contact service@carlisletechnology.com

At PackEx Toronto, we’ll be showing a pallet-label application with swing arm, but the P8 can be configured for tamp, blow, swing-arm, and label wipe applications.
